Warren Gatland Supports Priestland After Wales Boos

Wales coach Warren Gatland has criticized the fans who hooted at Rhys Priestland as he was coming towards the ground during last Saturday’s defeat to Australia. A small group of home fans booed Priestland when he was coming as replacement of the injured Dan Biggar in Wales’ 33-28 defeat. Gatland said on Tuesday: “I only came to know today that he was jeered. I think it is sports’ part now. You have sympathy for Rhys because of the way in social media he has been criticized by certain sections. He is a confident player. He considered leaving the game at one stage due to personal critisim because he is a young man.”

Priestland put Wales 28-27 ahead of Australia in the 64th minute by a penalty try but ony Bernard Foley gave visitors win with a late drop goal and penalty.” I think he played well at the weekend, “Gatland added. “I just want him to go out, play well and put his two fingers up to the section of the crowd that booed him last week. I think it is something we do not need in the game. It is the beauty of sport that we always do not agree. You may not agree with someone and that is fine but you should respect the people who are trying their best. He does not put that kit on and go out to fail.” He has been named to play Fiji this weekend.
