Cheika Wants Consistent Performance By Wallabies

Australia coach Michael Cheika has said if his players want to avoid another poor performance such as their 29-26 loss to France then they should train harder and more consistently. 18 turnovers were given by Wallabies in Saturday’s match which was almost won by them after a late rally. But Cheika acknowledged his team deserved defeat and insisted his players to do more effort during training if similar results are to be avoided in future.“To make ourselves consistent is the biggest thing for us, “said the coach. “We can play well every week if we train well every day by keeping our standards high, “added Cheika.

“This will not happen in few weeks. That is something we will have to keep working on it.” Australia’s performance was far away from their 33-28 win against Wales in Cardiff a week before. Cheika said they were lucky enough to still have a chance near the end particularly when Sebastien Tillous-Borde and Teddy Thomas produced first half tries but they were leading only by 17-16 at the break. “You cannot have a constant upward growth in rugby, it is not exponential, “Cheika said. “You do well some days and some days you do not. Opportunities were there on this day but we did not avail them at all.”

Warren Gatland Supports Priestland After Wales Boos

Wales coach Warren Gatland has criticized the fans who hooted at Rhys Priestland as he was coming towards the ground during last Saturday’s defeat to Australia. A small group of home fans booed Priestland when he was coming as replacement of the injured Dan Biggar in Wales’ 33-28 defeat. Gatland said on Tuesday: “I only came to know today that he was jeered. I think it is sports’ part now. You have sympathy for Rhys because of the way in social media he has been criticized by certain sections. He is a confident player. He considered leaving the game at one stage due to personal critisim because he is a young man.”

Priestland put Wales 28-27 ahead of Australia in the 64th minute by a penalty try but ony Bernard Foley gave visitors win with a late drop goal and penalty.” I think he played well at the weekend, “Gatland added. “I just want him to go out, play well and put his two fingers up to the section of the crowd that booed him last week. I think it is something we do not need in the game. It is the beauty of sport that we always do not agree. You may not agree with someone and that is fine but you should respect the people who are trying their best. He does not put that kit on and go out to fail.” He has been named to play Fiji this weekend.

Evaluation Of The Boks Castle Lager Outgoing Tour 2014

It will be determined on coming weekend’s tour to Twickenham whether Saturday’s surprising loss to Ireland was just a small break for the Springboks on their ascend to the top of rugby world or it was a major setback to the progress that Boks have made since 2012. The four match tour was always going to be defined on the basis of England game. As the 2010 team’s experience showed they still returned home as heroes despite having the humiliation of losing to Scotland because they defeated England in the last game. So your tour is successful if you win at Twickenham.

But there is a lot more to say than just doing this instant analysis after the Dublin defeat. How much progress they have made and how much work they have done through the whole year will be determined with the captain Jean de Villiers’ words: “This trip will decide we have made a good year or not.” Although the Boks have never won the Castle Lager Rugby Championship they did mark the box that needed marking by defeating New Zealand. They also adopted a style of rugby in the home leg of the Championship that left rivals surprising at the progress in their game.

Cheika Says World Cup Is Irrelevant In Wake Of Current Preparations

Wallabies have been placed in the group of Wales and England in 2015 World Cup which means that one of them will depart on the knock out stages. But Australian coach Cheika says the 2015 World Cup and the test against Wales on Saturday have no relevance.  “I am looking at just one thing at a time. That’s how you take it at test level, “said Cheika. People discuss all about this now a days. They are irrelevant. You want to get only one streak in a row that is next one you are playing. It is irrelevant to mark now for then. The sign for now is for now. I have never witnessed a rugby game that affected another rugby game in time of 12 months.

“Everything can change. We want to put down the marker just in relation to this battle, Wales v Australia.” Ewen McKenzie’s surprise resignation on October 22 gave Cheika chance to take over Wallabies and managed a 40-36 win against the Barbarians at Twickenham last week. But he says he is not looking further for matches with France and Ireland than the Wales game. “I have tried to focus at just this game, not even the next one on the tour,” he said. “Everything can occur between now and next week. I let the boys down only if they do not focus on the things that needed to be done today to ensure that tomorrow and Saturday is

Boks Have Not Changed The Starting Line Up Against Ireland

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has kept faith in the same tried and tested starting lineup that blocked a two year winning run of the All Blacks to start against Ireland in their Castle Lager Outgoing Tour opener in Dublin on Saturday. Meyer is keeping the same team for only fifth time in the three years in charge with only one change where Coenie Oosthuizen replaces Marcel van der Merwe, the latter being injured. Meyer was very happy because the selection from the last Test continued.

“We are able to select the same starting team only for the fifth time in the 34th Test since I was appointed as Springbok coach, “Meyer said. “It is pretty much unheard of not making changes to teams in this day and age but we are in this great position. However we should get it recognize against a very difficult Irish side on Saturday. The challenge this week is to win another game although we won the last match. It is necessary to improve our all aspects of play.”
