Wallabies Tour of Europe Teaches Cheika Home Truths

Michael Cheika has a lot of to think over the gap between regional and international achievement after Wallabies’ disappointing trip of Europe but he is confident the team can still contend the World Cup. Australia had a win over Wales in first test but was successively beaten by France, Ireland and England in the remaining tests. Australia has fallen to 5th in the world rankings which predicts poorly for their expectations to win a third World Cup.  Cheika however has rebuilding qualities turning Sydney’s New South Wales Waratahs from a southern hemisphere provincial rugby side into Super Rugby champions.

Cheika who guided Irish side Leinster to win first Heineken Cup said playing national coaching role has been learning experience. He also suggested that the attacking game he has used has been hit by strength of defence at the highest level. He said: “It is on me what I can do and what I cannot do about the attacking side of the game. You should look at the England game that our attacking players were off the chart but we still remained on the other side of the ledger. I would like to focus on forwards if we want to succeed at the World Cup.”
