Cheika Gives a New Look to Wallabies with Cooper and Genia Reunited

Quade Cooper and Will Genia have been reunited by new Australia coach Michael Cheika at half-back for Saturday’s match against the Barbarians at Twickenham. Both of them are being paired together by Auastralia for the first time since last November’s 30-26 win against Wales in Cardiff. Neither has appeared for Australia this year because Cooper is recovering from shoulder and hip injuries and Genia an ankle issue. Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper has been given the rest by Cheika because he wants to have him fresh for the upcoming games against England, France, Wales and Ireland.

Matt Hodgson will replace him at openside flanker and he will also captain the side. Fijian born winger Henry Speight will debut for Australia after waiting for four years due to eligibility criteria and Melbourne Rebels flanker Sean McMahon is waiting on bench to make his debut. One player has been omitted from an extended nine man bench after Thursday afternoon’s training session. Cheika is confident about the Wallabies’ chances in the November Tests with a mixture of young and experienced players in his first team selection.
